Editing/Correcting

In a text edit, the texts (in contrast to a proofreading) are thoroughly checked for several aspects. On the one hand, spelling mistakes as well as formal and grammatical errors are improved. On the other hand, stylistic factors such as redundancies (repetitive elements) that disrupt the reading flow are checked and such elements are subsequently either deleted or modified. I pay particular attention to whether the text has a common thread and can be perceived as a coherent whole.

For example, I insert clarifying elements and make use of text-cohesive devices (conjunctions, pronominal adverbs, recurrences, anaphors, pro-forms, etc.) to produce a cohesive text that is coherent in itself and based on presupposed background knowledge (cognitive schemes, frames, scripts, familiar text patterns) in order to produce a cohesive text that is coherent in itself and builds on the presupposed background knowledge (cognitive schemata, frames, scripts, known text patterns and formulas) of the respective target group, so that they in turn can recognize and understand it as a coherent whole. In this way, text optimization aims to achieve the greatest possible communicative success.

I edit all kinds of texts, such as product descriptions, advertising copy, advertising letters, flyers, social media posts/stories, news and event articles, blog articles, website texts, magazine articles, non-fiction texts, information texts, artistic texts (literary texts, essays, poems, novels, thrillers), but also term papers, seminar papers, proseminar papers, bachelor’s theses, diploma theses, master’s theses and dissertations.

Longer texts are usually suitable for editing, because in such texts the thread can usually get lost and because redundant elements can often creep in and the text structure is unclear.

Proofreading is a simplified form of text editing. The texts are mainly checked for spelling and grammatical errors. The structure of the text, the style of the text, redundant elements and elements that disrupt the flow of reading are of secondary importance in the correction. The texts should either be very short and/or already have a logical structure and only need to be checked for possible typing or grammatical errors.
